Courses in the departments

 

The University Language Center, through its language experts, organizes foreign language courses within the respective university departments. These courses prepare students for the exams required to demonstrate language proficiency, as specified in the academic regulations for each degree program.

Language courses are held during two periods of the year:

1st Semester from October to December
2nd Semester from March to May

For the course schedule and other useful information, students are invited to consult this page or the website of their respective department.At the end of the courses, the Language Center organizes exam sessions at its own location. To find out the dates, students are encouraged to check the center’s social media channels and the news section of the website. Exam registration must be completed through ESOL.

PROCEDURES FOR LANGUAGE ASSESSMENTS at the DSU

 

Starting with the summer session of the 2021–2022 academic year, language assessments for the three-year and master’s degree programs L11/LM37 will be administered separately from the linguistics exams.The organization, administration, conduct, criteria, and procedures for evaluating these exams will be the responsibility of the language experts for the individual language courses affiliated with the program.

 

NUMBER OF LANGUAGE TESTS - SCHEDULE

 

The assessment schedule follows the exam calendar set forth in the DSU Academic Regulations, namely, five dates scheduled in accordance with the exam dates chosen by the course instructor and included in the following sessions:

- winter session between January and February;
- summer session between June and July;
- fall session in September.

Students will have the opportunity to take one language assessment per session during the academic year after properly registering on the ESOL platform. Students who are behind in their studies may take the scheduled assessments upon submission of documentation verifying their status (Art. 21, paragraph 2 of the RDA). The year of enrollment shall be considered valid. The exam schedule will be published on the website, with a link provided on the page of the respective professor teaching the Language and Linguistics course.

 

LANGUAGE TEST REGISTRATION

 

Language exams must be scheduled on the ESOL UNINA platform (www.esol.unina.it) during the registration period announced on the website. 2 Students must sign the attendance sheet each time they take a written exam so that their attendance at 3 out of the 5 scheduled exams can be verified.

 

LANGUAGE TEST CONTENT

 

Language labs are designed to achieve the objectives set by the individual lab coordinators in consultation with the linguistics instructor and in accordance with the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The syllabi for the various lab courses will be posted by each language lab coordinator in the Microsoft Teams group for the respective course.

 

EXAM FORMAT

 

Assessment methods are varied and diverse, tailored to the teaching and learning needs of the various languages, as well as to the objectives set at the beginning of the courses and the evaluation criteria.
They are designed to assess different skills and competencies in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Common European Framework of Reference.
Specifically:

- The assessments and evaluation criteria will be in accordance with the provisions of Article 20 of the RDA. Assessments may be written or oral. The assessment methods and criteria will be established by the language expert and communicated at the beginning of the academic year and/or in a timely manner to ensure proper planning of language instruction.
- The language experts reserve the right to conduct assessments in paper-based and/or computer-based formats based on the requirements of the learning objectives to be achieved and the assessment criteria established by the language expert for their respective course.
- The results of the written assessment are finalized exclusively during the same session (January–February for the winter session; June–July for the summer session; September for the fall session).
Any further finalization of assessment tests, practical exercises, or language activities conducted during the academic year will be decided by the language expert and communicated to students.
- The results of the language assessments will be communicated in compliance with the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679) regarding the processing of personal data and will be indicated as PASS/FAIL in the Microsoft TEAMS group for the respective course.

 

AVAILABILITY OF INFORMATION REGARDING LANGUAGE ASSESSMENTS AND OTHER RELATED COMMUNICATIONS ON THE WEBSITE

 

All communications regarding course schedules, ESOL registration dates, the exam calendar, as well as the results of placement tests and any related information will be available on the Microsoft Teams group for the respective course.
