On Friday 20 May
at 12.30 in aula 4, on Corso Umberto, the students will present various talks
on Naples, the legend of Parthenope and
more specifically Caravaggio and his
great painting ‘The Seven Acts of Mercy’ housed in the Pio Monte di
Misericordia church.
During a lesson
in which Caravaggio and the painting were mentioned, it turned out that very
few students had ever seen the painting. This seemed a terrible shame as the
painting is housed so close to the university. So, we decided to organize a trip
to see it, one thing led to another and this event is the result. The students
put their knowledge of Italian, Neapolitan and English into practice, working
on translating and subtitling. They wrote
their own articles and used their creativity by writing a fictitious
interview with Caravaggio in order to bring this great artist to life.
So after the
presentations, which will be delivered in English, we will walk to the nearby
Pio Monte di Misericordia church, to admire this wonderful painting. There may
be other short stops along the way, you will have to come, to see for
yourselves.
The aim of the
CLA is to publicize the many beauties of Naples, it’s architecture, history,
art and music, through articles and videos. These will appear in the CLA
magazine, which all students are warmly
invited to contribute to.
So, Naples on
the #stritt aims to involve as many students as possible, in future we hope to
hold other events to celebrate the great artistic and cultural heritage of this
amazing city , Naples.
