What is the TCF and who is it for:

The TCF (TEST DE CONNAISSANCE DU FRANÇAIS) is a language level test in French provided by France Éducation international (FEi) on request of the Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale (Ministry of National Education) that allows candidates to assess their knowledge of French and to place themselves between one of the six levels (A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2) of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) defined by the Council of Europe. It corresponds to the American TOEFL and is valid for 2 years.
It provides for different types of tests depending on who it is addressed to and/or depending on the conditions for obtaining a residence permit or citizenship in certain countries.

The TCF TP (Tout Public) is aimed at:
- Students and/or people who for personal, study or professional reasons wish to know their level of proficiency in French ;
- Candidates for scholarships and international certifications ;
- French language students wishing to certify their progress.

The TCF QUÉBEC is intended for those (over 16 years of age) who wish to file an application for a residence permit in Québec. A minimum of five candidates are required to take this test. It will be made known upon publication of the list of admitted candidates, if the minimum number required has been reached.

The TCF CANADA is a French language assessment test according to the IRCC (Immigration, réfugiés et citoyenneté Canada).
TCF Canada results are required for immigration for work purposes or to obtain Canadian citizenship.

TCF procedure:

TCF TP procedure :
The test is delivered in presence in a computer-based version. It is organised into three mandatory tests for a total duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes as follows:
- Listening comprehension = 25 min.
- Language structure (grammar + vocabulary) = 20 min.
- Written comprehension = 45 min.
The test also includes 2 optional tests* (oral expression of 15 minutes and written expression of 60 minutes) which are independent from one another. This means that each candidate must take the three mandatory tests but is not required to take one or both optional tests. Likewise, the candidate may choose to take one or both optional tests if requested by the host institution or university.
*The optional tests may only be taken if the minimum number of five candidates per test is reached.

TCF QUEBEC procedure:
The TCF Québec consists of 4 modular tests designed to assess French language skills. Each candidate may choose, according to his or her needs, to take a single test, 2, 3 or 4 tests among the 4 skills:
- 39 multiple-choice questions for listening comprehension (4 possible answers, only one correct answer)
- 39 multiple-choice questions for reading comprehension (4 possible answers, one correct answer only)
- 3 tasks for oral production (individual test)
- 3 tasks for written production.

TCF CANADA procedure:
It consists of four mandatory tests and assesses the four language skills in French: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, oral production and written production.
The TCF Canada is structured as follows according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for learning, teaching and assessment in languages and language proficiency levels according to Canadian standards
- 39 multiple-choice questions for listening comprehension (4 answer options, only one correct answer)
- 39 multiple-choice questions for reading comprehension (4 possible answers, one correct answer only)
- 3 tasks for oral production
- 3 tasks for written production.
The test will be run in the early afternoon.
The result obtained in the test gives the candidate a certificate with the correlated results.
If on the very same exam day there are both the three compulsory tests and the TCF Canada, the second will be held at about 1 o' clock P.M.; cadidates must be at exam venuta at 12:40 .


How to register:

1) Candidates must wait for the opening of BOOKINGS for the exam date of interest, which will be communicated by a notice posted on our website notice board. Bookings will open at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the booking window;
2) to book the exam fill in and send the required online form, whose link will be posted on the booking opening notice;
3) read the ranking list of candidates admitted to the exam by order of booking published on the website;
4) only admitted candidates may proceed to ENROLL by filling in and sending the appropriate enrolment form, whose link will be posted on the enrolment opening notice (candidates who are minors must have the form filled in by a parent). Please remember to bring the filled in and printed documents, whose links are an integrative part of the application form, with you at the exam.
Incomplete submission of the documents will be reasons for exclusion from the exam.


 

TCF fees and how to pay (until 15 March 2024):

Payment of the exam fee is preliminary to enrolment and must be made by bank transfer payable to: Centro Linguistico di Ateneo Università degli studi di Napoli Federico II
IBAN: IT30Q0306903496100000300051. In the bank transfer reason of payment please indicate: candidate’s name and surname, type of certification, test date.

- TCF TP exam fee for the 3 compulsory tests: € 110.00
- TCF TP exam fee for the 3 compulsory tests + the optional oral expression test: €165
- TCF TP exam fee for the 3 compulsory tests + the optional written expression test: €165
- TCF TP exam fee for the 3 compulsory tests + the 2 optional tests (oral expression + written expression): € 220

Exam venue:

The TCF test will be held (different test times are specified after test dates) at the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (University Language Centre) at via Mezzocannone 8, fourth floor (entrance from via Paladino, second floor).

If on the very same exam day there are both the three compulsory tests and the TCF Canada, the second will be held at about 1 o' clock P.M.; cadidates must be at exam venuta at 12:40 .


 

Results and certificate delivery:

After having completed the test, candidates may ask for a provisional results certificate. Among ten and twenty-one working days after test delivery, candidate's results will be released and electronic certificates will be released and sent to each candidate with a certified electronic e-mail from the address certificazioni.cla@pec.unina.it .
